I wish! Those doofuses are still whining that the USA didn't ratify Kyoto like we "had to" because of algore's signature, ditto the ICC treaty, which WJC signed. If they did just a teensy bit of research, they'd realize that it's Congress that votes on and ratifies treaties (like the ICC and Kyoto protocols) ; they don't become legally binding on the USA based on a president's signature-his signature means about as much as mine or yours would. The senate voted 66-0 not to even consider VOTING on Kyoto in it's present form. But they're still whining about GWB's removal of the ( legally meaningless) presidential signature from the ICC document of intent , and the renunciation of Kyoto, as a stab in the back. They really believe that if algore had won, the US would have ratified both treaties-and they also believe that any democrat who enters the WH will ratify those two treaties (all by him/herself). And that explains why there's so much hatred of GWB in the media and on the part of some heads of state....They're trying to "torpedo" his presidency, so he'll be defeated in 2004 and a democrat will take over. They really believe that if a democrat takes the WH, the US will automatically pass Kyoto and the ICC!

Make that THE EU MEDIA above...The US media hates GWB because they hate his supporters ; the EU media hates him because they "Know" his election cost them economic supremacy (Kyoto) and the final death of US national sovereignty (the ICC)>

That's part of the legacy of Clinton that we will have to live with and try to correct -
Other countries feel that their leaders signature is law, and are not used to the US having a scheming bastard who would sign anything if it would get him more contributions.
Since Clinton is not in jail or dead, they think that his "proclamations" are valid.
Their leaders, of course, understand the reality of the situation, but they will pretend not to if it suits their purposes.

I was arguing with a radical left-winger (whom I've known for years) and got him really pissed off when I pointed out that the US hasn't formally ratified all kinds of UN treaties. Even though I won the argument, I was left with the question of exactly how many UN treaties have we ever ratified? Obviously, Kyoto and the ICC were non-starters. The Geneva Convention was pre-UN. All I can think of is nuclear-weapons related.
