Al-Jazirah's Self-Flagellation

Cairo, Egypt :Al-Jumhuriyah in Arabic 19 Mar 03 p 4 [Article by Dr. Abd-Al-Azim Ramadan : "Al-Jazirah's Self-Flagellation"]

Those who watch Al-Jazirah Channel, and the particular guests it hosts, must conclude that this channel is planning for Arabs to lose their identity, their history, civilization and homelands for the sole pretext that the Arab nation is unable today to help Iraq !

If Al-Jazirah channel were fair, it would have held seminars to probe the reasons for the Arab nation's inability today to help Iraq ! It would have realized that the Iraqi regime was the reason.

This same Iraqi regime has weakened the Islamic and Arab nations. It never put its military force at the service of the Arab nation or the Arab-Israeli struggle! Conversely, it used it to serve its own interests! The proof is that the weapons Iraq accumulated were never used in any battle against Israel , despite the fact that it was the key enemy of the Arab nation.

Nobody knows the reason for this non-conventional Iraqi armament, which turned the world's nations against it, and prompted them to demand that it relinquish and destroy it.

Is not that deliberate and secret planning, which has for its sole purpose to lose faith in, scorn and disown the Arab nation?

Al-Jazirah channel should know that if US forces are now stationed in the Gulf States , it is because of Saddam Husayn and the Iraqi regime, which threatened to annihilate these countries, as they have threatened the Kuwaiti people before with occupation and expulsion.

The Gulf peoples discovered that they faced a greater threat from the Iraqi regime, more than they faced from any other regime. They therefore forged alliances with forces greater than that of Saddam and his regime. This force is the same colonialist force now camped on their lands today .

Hence, instead of continuing to ridicule Arabs, to deride their impotence and to taunt them for allowing [foreign] armies to remain stationed in their lands, Al-Jazirah must recognize that the Iraqi regime it defends today is solely responsible for this deteriorated Arab position.

Thanks to Al-Jazirah, every Arab has come to scorn and disown his Arab identity. This channel makes every Arab feel his impotence as if he were responsible for this deterioration of the Arab nation.

The Arab nation -- not the Iraqi regime -- is at risk. It hosts agents, some of whom insolently abuse the Arab nation, insult its rulers and peoples on the pretext that it cannot defend Iraq . However, the Iraqi regime is not only responsible for this ordeal of the Iraqis. It is also responsible for the dilemma of the entire Arab nation.

What is the use of this self-flagellation practiced by Al-Jazirah channel? It only serves to make a man lose his self-respect, his confidence that he might be back on his feet after the nasty fall he had because of the Iraqi regime.

The Arab nation faces a terrible scheme seeking to destroy its present and future .

Ha.

Add Al Jazeera to the perennial list of conspirators out to "destroy" Arabs and Islam.

Dementia reigns.

Did you see the Centcom briefing today in which they took questions from reporters? The Maj. General was picking reporters out and specifically made sure to choose some Arab papers as well as several others from countries unfriendly to the US.

The quesitons asked from China, Al Jazeera etc. were designed to try and make the US look bad.

Like the professional he is the Maj. Gen. just directly took the questions at face value and provided answers. Another reporter then asked if Al Jazeera would be seen as hostile media and barred from these briefings due to their having aired the footage of the POWs. The General just said that he didn't view any media as hostile and would not bar anyone from attending. He stated that he saw the regime of Saddam Hussien as hostile.

I loved that moment. Here are these reporters from very unfriendly countires looking only to report the negative in an attempt to make the US look bad enjoying free speech like they've never seen it before. Man I love that constitution.
