The embedded reporter was making it a much more significant event (ie saying that this city/port was supposed to have been under control and now because of this it wasn't).
He wasn't talking about it as an isolated pocket that just needed to be taken out.

Hubby just said the Russians sold the Iraqi's night vision equipment and jamming equipment. Anything out there about this?

Put that way, I agree. He was making himself and his broadcast the center of the message too, I noticed.
