The corrected title is BS too.
Rumsfeld said that there are missing soldiers, and did not admit anything about a Missing Plane in Baghdad. Nothing.

Myers also said that 14 Americans had been killed, 7 in combat and 7 in accidents. I had not heard that as many as 7 had been lost in combat.

Maybe we don't want to admit it yet if one is missing.
To: kabar
I haven't heard either that 7 had been killed in combat. I was aware of only 2.

That's what I've been thinking. If we admit that a plane is missing, that encourages the Iraqis to keep searching even if they haven't found any downed pilots yet..

LOL! It really is a simple question that can be answered quite easily. Guess they've got their reasons for keeping mum?

MSNBC is saying that the Iraqi Vice President said that the soldiers will be shown on TV soon. This sucks!
To: Kimlee
I didn't think you made it up, I was just trying to echo you because posters were confused thinking Rumsfeld said we had missing pilots which, as your post rightly says soldiers not pilot, sorry, I should have posted the reply to 'all'.

Brits - 14 lost in accidents
Brits - 2 lost in downed warplane
Americans - 2 lost in combat
Americans - 5 lost in accidents

Especially when the nutcases are just shooting into the bushes and water. I'm starting to think we should give them the same treatment.

when are the americans gonna start playing hardball? we need to do a little disinformation ourselves.
To: Jhoffa_
Look, you can't expect up to the second reports on the disposition of our troops! There my be things going on involving "missing" things/people that they don't want to get out. If there is a downed pilot, you wouldn't want the enemy to know because of a posibility of rescue!
To: dommie
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs just said on Fox, that it was a RAF Tornado suspected to have been shot down by a Patriot missle.
To: demkicker
I could even understand that..
But if they want to keep mum they obviously need to properly define "mum" to someone.
This is really frustrating. In case you aren't aware of it, Islamic newswires reported yesterday that a female American pilot had been captured. I had hoped it was propaganda then, but now with all this confusion, I am not so sure.

Are you maybe hung up on the semantics of:
"Killed in Combat",
as opposed to
"Killed by Hostile Fire".
4 in Helicoptor Crash Landing.
2 in combat action.
1 in traffic accident.
1 in Helicoptor Mid-Air collision.
1 in fragging incident.
- -
All of these will be counted as Killed in Combat
since it has occured during the operations.

06:18 PST (AP) -- Rumsfeld said there are some American troops who are missing in Iraq. He noted that under the Geneva Convention governing prisoners of war, "It's illegal to do things to POWs that are humiliating to those prisoners."
"There are, we believe, there are some American soldiers missing." He said there also could be captured journalists.

Rumsfield was on Meet the Press. Did not say anything about lost soldiers.

Expanded AP report:
Rumsfeld Says Some U.S. Soldiers Missing
By MATT KELLEY, Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON - Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said Sunday some American soldiers are missing in the fighting in Iraq and that there is a report of a missing allied aircraft.
Rumsfeld said he could not provide any information about a missing aircraft. In Baghdad, security officers searched the banks of the Tigris River, apparently looking for one of more pilots who may have bailed out of a downed plane.
Asked what he could say about missing pilots, Rumsfeld replied, "Nothing." He suggested that the search in Baghdad was staged.
"There has been a report of an aircraft missing," the secretary acknowledged on NBC's "Meet the Press. "I don't want to speculate because I simply don't know."
