Salon is a really good site. Obviously, one must pick which articles to read, but sometimes it really has some killer stuff. Why then with so many hits are they constantly on the verge of death?

I wonder how much I had to do with those numbers?

Too much, probably.

Because of their business model.

Basically, they have tried to "value price" their content, making the more desired content more expensive. To the contrary, Free Republic provides accurate, timely information of the highest quality to all members (and the non-registered public)at no cost to its readers, without any registration or expense required on the part of the reader.

Awesome catch. Looks like some trolls got in a snit because they were banned and posted some lame reviews, though.

"Business Model"

But it seems to me that they used to be wideopen like FREEPLAND is. I guess I just don't understand Web Economics.

As I understand it, if you are not a registered member of Alexa.com and do not install their "spyware," you will neither be tracked nor counted in these ratings. Therefore, these figures probably underestimate the impact of Free Republic, since most Freepers are highly privacy conscious and would be less likely to register for such a service.

Exactly. A couple of days ago, I went to alexa with the intention of registering and did not because they wanted much more info than I was willing to provide.

You just went way over my head. You mean my lurking and posting on FR may not be included in the numbers? Keep it simple.

If you do not install the Alexa.com "spyware," you will not be counted in their rankings.

Could be that rabid anti-capitolists have a problem making a profit in a capitolist environment. That and the fact that they keep telling everyone how horrible the economy is (because of Bush) just like the money bleeding AOLTIMEWARNER group of idiots. Cut your nose off.... city.
