Heard something on the radio today that I didn't know. You know the Lt. General that gave the Centcom briefing today? He is going to be in charge of Baghdad (compared sort of like a mayor position) when we get there while helping them put their government in place. He attended school in Jordan on some sort of military scholarship and speaks fluent Arabic. He was described as being a quickly rising star within the military and highly trusted right hand of Gen. Franks.

CNN just reported on a major Apache helicoptor engagement with the elite "Medina" Republican Guard. An embed reporter said the battle is underway and that's all. No location, no duration, nothing. Aaron said they can't say anything until they get clearance later tonight.

Lt. Gen. John Abizaid

Lebanese General Named Second-in-Command of U.S. Army to Invade Iraq A U.S. Army General of Lebanese origin, often called the "mad Arab," has been appointed second in command of the American forces assigned to invade Iraq to overthrow President Saddam Hussein.

Born in California to a Lebanese father who worked as a mechanic, Abuzaid immediately served with U.S. Paratroops forces after graduation and eventually commanded an army battalion during the 1983 U.S. invasion of Granada.

He then commanded Air Division 82 that served as the spearhead of rapid intervention forces of the U.S. army and was assigned in the late 1980s to serve in northern Iraq and later in Kosovo and Bosnia in the 1990s.
