One thing to keep in mind here.. that location is not in the strategic line of sight for Baghdad. It's not like the marines were just barreling across the desert and some private shouted out, "Hey Cap'n, what's that big building over there?"

This location was a target predetermined by the CIA/NSA. A central part of the mission is disarmament, so it is very important that we secure these sights as soon as possible.
