America needed to see Juanita Broaddrick and others on live TV in front of the Senate.

Yea. A screaming Monica Lewinski, mewling over how horrible the Republicans are to be persecuting her, would have had a hell of an impact on the American public.

It would not have been a good thing. In addition, nobody knows if Juanita Broddrick would have consented to be grilled by Greg Craig and company on national television.

Lott was gauging the politics of the situation, and I think he gauged it correctly.

But, hey. I know my opinion is in the minority around here, and that Trent Lott is hated almost as much as Clinton is.

The treatment of Trent Lott after his unremarkable remarks at Strom Thurmond's party by Free Republic was one of the most shameful things I've ever seen and made me embarrasssed to be associated with this site.

I've gotten over it, but I'll never forget it.

Why don't you stick to the topic at hand and stop trying to incite discord about past democrat scandal. We're at war. I actually read a few posts of yours last night without getting pissed; revisit them and take one for the team until this is all over. Then you can go back to your former ways and we can all have fun again....

No, I didn't want Monica up there screaming about the evil Republicans. I wanted his victims up there. I wanted Kathleen Willey to talk about how he assaulted her in the White House and that the lives of her kids were threatened a week before her testimony in the Jones case. I would have liked to see Sally Perdue testify about how a shotgun shell was left on her car's front seat and how a thug threatened to break her legs. I would have like to hear Gennifer Flowers talk about threats against her and the break in of her house. Those would have been somewhat interesting.

Trent Lott refusing to have a real trial just because the politics of the situation didn't mean much of a chance at a conviction was one of the most despicable abuses of a lack of leadership I have ever seen.

"I've gotten over it, but I'll never forget it."

That sword seems to cut both ways.

The treatment of Trent Lott after his unremarkable remarks at Strom Thurmond's party...so unremarkable in fact that when he said virtually the same thing two years earlier (here) there was apparently not one word of disapproval - not from Dennis Hastert sitting next to Thurmond, not from any of those standing around (including the tall black man in the back row), not from anyone watching the proceedings on C-Span, and certainly not from anyone on FR that I can recall - if the 'pubs could so easily sell out someone whom they themselves had elected MR three terms straight, I shudder to think what they'd do to rank-and-file voters if circumstances were right......
