Agreed he's nuts. I hope he's an isolated case and his type pr Islamic belief is not widespread among his fellow believers.

I've spent a lot of time reading about Islam since 9-11.
I've reread "Among the Believers", as well as "Beyond Belief", "Islam Unveiled", "What Went Wrong", "American Jihad", just to name a few books off the top of my head. Currently I'm on "KIngdom of Hatred". The more I read the more concerned I've become.

The actions of American Muslims have also concerned me. Rather then whole heartedly trying to support us, they try to make a rational attempt to identify the threat some kind of PC hate crime. If you visit sites like "CAIR" on the web it's all about reporting any suspected offence, trying to get sympathetic press coverage or filing lawsuits. As if we REALLY increase security by patting down 80 year old granma's as they travel with their grandkids.

The fact is that Islam in the US is heavily influenced by Wahhabi fundamentalism. Really nasty stuff. Most Mosques, Islamic schools, Organizations and Imans ( even in the US military ) are part of this group.

This attack on us from what amounts to a militant political branch of a religion strikes at us from a completely unprecedented direction. We are a nation with a history of separation of the religious from the secular. So our institutions are paralyzed in dealing with attack from this direction. How are we to protect ourselves from them, how do we know which observant Muslim is a good, loyal citizen, and which is what amounts to an enemy agent within our midst? Do we have to wait for that person to strike?

What I fear is that as events like yesterdays multiply, particularly if another domestic disaster occurs like 911, that in self defence the people will react, and it won't be pretty for any Muslim who remains in the US.

IMHO, in the future there will be no room for tolerating the evil fringe, whether they be Muslim or communist or anything else that crops up. In this day and age of facilitated movement (of both people and money) and communications, there is not the luxury of time. Vigilance must be the codeword from now on.

And, it would seem I was wise not to take you up on your bet, as it seems our nutcase was a recent convert to Islam, and "against the war".
