why couldn't we have israelis who know arabic for our translators? We should, and we should also search for native born Americans who are not professional translators but who have somehow acquired a knowledge of a particular language. One of the best translators I met was a woman who had worked as an interpreter at the Kenya US Embassy bombing trial. She was an American who had married a Kenyan and lived there for 20 years. She was recruited through a call put out over various radio stations in NYC and she did a great job.

Ever FReeper should read the book "Bias". Everything you've suspected about CBS is true.
If you don't want to buy it go to your local Barnes and Noble and spend an enjoyable few hours purusing it.

That statement should be stapled to the forehead or everyone at the Pentagon. That's what I think, too. It's something that's bothered me for quite some time (well, maybe since I read that a Spanish translator in a US govt agency was actually a Cuban spy who was simply tossing out intercepted communications that were less than favorable to Cuba).
This is not a major thing that is right at the forefront of everybody's mind, like, say, terrorist attacks, but it is certainly something the enemy can use to get at us through the age-old technique of misinformation.

Fox news reporting - A US soldier is missing - now he is suspect.
The 2 translators are found and accounted for.
To: Carney Asada
From FoxNews: May be a fragging. One soldier is missing -- could be the suspect.
