Apparently in Arabic the pronunciation is closer to "gutter." However, since we are not CNN, I do not understand why it isn't pronounced "KuhTAHR" the way we used to. After all, we don't say "Espana" or "Deutchland."

I clicked on the sound bite and it sounds more gutteral with much more emphasis on the first syllable making an "aw" vowel sound. But also the second syllable isn't an "uhr" sound, but more open "ahr." Nothing near the annoying "Kutter."
