No Greater Love
A patriot died today
A volunteer
An entire life
Gone in a moment
Why did he die?
It wasn't because he wanted to
But because he was willing to
Simply because he loved our land
His heart was stirred
At the sight of Old Glory flying
Or to hear the anthem's strain
An eagle in flight
Made his spirit soar
Why not me or you?
Senseless luck of the draw?
Or maybe it was because
We weren't at the front lines
And he was--think about it
Or perhaps something simpler yet
As is often the case
Maybe he paid the ultimate price
For the comrades by his side
The greatest Man who ever lived
God in the flesh
Said it best, by word and by deed
"No man has greater love than this
He laid down his life for his friends"
