EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Police arrested at least five people Friday after a group of anti-war protesters blocked a main thoroughfare near Michigan State University, police said.
About 100 demonstrators blocked the road, East Lansing Police Lt. Kevin Daley said. He said the total number of arrests would increase throughout the day.
"We're taking one at a time, because we don't want anybody injured," he said.
Some protesters were chained together, Daley said. Police officers used bolt cutters to remove some chained protesters from the area, he said.
Police eventually redirected traffic around the group, which formed around 9 a.m. EST, to allow traffic to continue flowing.
