Bismuth is used for making alloys that melt at low temperatures and in certain medicines.

There are some really cool bismuth alloys such as Cerrobend that will melt at temperatures less than boiling water.

I use one CerroBend that has a melting temp of 180 deg. ...
My instrumrnts suffer far less heat damage using this alloy.
