If he's dead, surely his inner circle knows it. Why would they continue to fight, as opposed to surrendering ?

I do not see any fighting going on now. This is a straight run for Baghdad no caution, no shock and awe campaign. Would this happen unless we were sure that there would not be any opposition. Saddam is gone or to hurt to lead, same for his boys.
