Students at a Connecticut high school burned a replica of the French flag to protest the refusal of America's oldest ally to support the U.S. invasion of Iraq.

"The French actions have been bad so far," said Newtown HS senior Austin McChord.

Yes they would have been treated as heroes, espically if a couple of wooden guns where thrown into the mix.

Yet, we bitch and moan when they burn OUR flag.
If we want respect, we'd better be able to give it. Is burning the French flag going to gain influence and support with the French? Every time I see a Palestinian or that skag Rachel Corrie burning the American Flag, I want to smash my fist (or tractor) into their faces. Why would the French reaction be any different?

Unfortunately, probably true.

The longer printed version in the N.Y. Post today says that people have been emailing and calling this kid from all over supporting him.

Maybe they should call the school.... hmmmm...

ACLU would have been ALL OVER this "free speech" issue if they'd torched a U.S. flag!

I agree, nobody should burn the flag of any country, no matter how weasely and cowardly its leaders are. Given the fact that our blood boils when we see some idiot burning Old Glory, we should remember that and respect foreign flags. Personally, I think Congress should pass a law forbidding the public burning or desecration of any flag (except for proper disposal of torn flags by the military). That law would be viewpoint neutral (unlike in U.S. v. Johnson, where only the U.S. flag was covered by the law) and the Supreme Court should let the law stand. And if someone wants to express publicly their disgust with the government of the U.S., France or whatever, just hold up a sign that says exactly that. But don't burn a flag. That's the cowards way.

re: post 10. Then seriously freep me! As much as I am totally disgusted with the French and their pusillanimous behaviour, I can never condone the trashing of their flag. It hurts me deeply to see our Stars and Stripes defaced, burnt and stomped on. How do you think the French feel about their flag. Boycott their wines, but leave their Flag alone! I would have suspended them too!

oh please... everyone else here is right-- had it been an American flag being burned, they would have been applauded by the limousine libbies. the beserkely students out in California desecrate American emblems on a daily basis. DO NOT demonize someone for taking a stand against the anti-american climate we've been bombarded with!

I´ll remind youi next time you cry because the arabs burn a american flag

I've never cried when someone burned an American flag. I think it's stupid.

But it sure must mean a lot to the lefty America haters that love to do it so often.

What's good for the goose and all that....

As much as I deplore the actions of the French government I can't support this sort of thing. Flat out hatred for all things French is just misguided.

We ought to be above this.

Honey, I'm just reporting the news.

I would not do this and I would not be happy if my kid did.

But I sure won't condemn anyone who does it.

I also hit back after being hit once too many times..
