IST (17:50)
Two oil fields south and west of Basra have been torched by Iraqi troops.
United States Marines ordered to advance from Kuwait into Southern Iraq at speed to extinguish the blaze.
Battles rage as Marines lay down artillery barrage to clear their path while coming under hevy fire themselves.

DEBKA? Is this reliable?Perhaps. DEBKA is about as reliable as a stopped clock.

A Daisy Cutter or MOAB could probably blow out the fires. Expensive but fast. But would it be better to let the oil burn off or seep into the sand?
To: ewing
Let the eco-weenies extinguish the blaze while under fire... we'll drill ANWR (cleanly, responsibly, and accountably) to make up any lost supply.
To: Lunatic Fringe
Put out the fire with what?

Really. Must we post whatever pops into DEBKA's imagination in all CAPS?

I beg to differ. A stopped clock is considerably more reliable than Debka.

Could we skip these DEBKA posts? Or at least mark them as coming from DEBKA in the headline?
To: sarasota
Exactly! You need engineers and a lot of equipment to put out an oil well fire, equipment Marines ready for battle would not have.
DEBKA strikes again. I'd lost to see DEBKA sourced articles banned.

DEBKA? Is this reliable? No. In fact, if you want to know exactly what isn't happening, Debka is a good place to turn.
To: ewing
Marines are not the experts at extinguising oil fires.
