WASHINGTON, March 19 /U.S. Newswire/ -- House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas) released the following statement tonight regarding the liberation of Iraq:
"During the twelve years since Saddam Hussein agreed to carry out the United Nations resolutions, his regime has systematically brutalized the Iraqi people," DeLay said. "We will never know how many faceless victims have screamed out their last words to the uncaring ears of Saddam's torturers.
"There is no negotiating with a man like this. There is no safe path to accommodate his ambitions. Our only responsible option was to confront this threat before more Americans die. He must be removed from power.
"We have to give President Bush our full support as he confronts this evil. And as defenders of freedom, we also owe the besieged people of Iraq the same hope we supplied to the people of Germany nearly six decades ago.
"The liberation of Iraq has begun."
