US officials say Iraq has fired at least one Scud missile into northern Kuwait, which was intercepted by a Patriot missile.

Breaking from the Pentagon by Major Gerrett on FNC --
First missile was indeed a SCUD, and was taken down by a Patriot. Exploded in flight, indecating a pak3 Patriot. Second missile was probably an anti-ship, sunburn variant. Difficult to engage. Went of course.

Second missile fired by Iraq was their version of the SUNBURN type anti-ship missile it landed harmlessly..

Saddam was fobidden to use SCUDS as part of the '91 cease fire. His possession of them is in violation of that pact.

Morning Summary:
1) Small number of Iraqi missile strikes in Kuwait City and US Marine unit in northern Iraq. No evidence of chem/bio. Possible small aircraft in area of US troops. Patriots intercepted some of the incoming.
2) Special Ops are actively "preparing the battlefield" in Iraq in advance of the shock & awe.
3) Large action underway in Afghanistan.
To: Dog
Iraq could have missiles with a range UNDER 90 miles, if memory serves.

I'm with you, let's have some shock and awe Yes. Let's. I want this war over in a hurry. I woke up surprised we hadn't saturated Baghdad with cruise missles and bunker busters.
I have absolute faith in our military, however.

FNC reported that some of the missles weren't SCUD'S, but were Sunburns. This is a very high speed cruise missle, designed to carry a Soviet tactical nuke to a US CV Battlegroup. Iraqis using them in a land attack mode, *not* against our carriers, just giving some background on the weapon.
