SACRAMENTO (AP) - State wildlife officials strung about four miles worth of detonation cord around a shallow cove in a Sierra Nevada lake Wednesday, then set off a thumping explosion intended to kill spawning northern pike with an underwater shock wave.

Why don't they sponsor some Pike Fishin' contests? Put a cash bounty on pike and they will toast.

This is a real oddesy Norm.
It seems to me that California might be better served to develope a temporary, alternate, water supply for the town and then drain the lake.

The northern pike is a very tough fish. You might need one of these:

Very tough fish, indeed.. "
The explosives are the latest attempt to control the voracious pike, which have been poisoned, shocked, netted, trapped and hooked to no avail since they were discovered"
I grew up in Minnesota and this is not a very desireable fish. Very predatory. It is edible but bony unless ya fillet it just right, and puts up a good fight when hooked. Not a surprise they have survived this much, tho.
Who knows what they would find if they drained Lake Davis?

one can imagine or use various stories,
to set-up the punchline.

Amen! I'm from Michigan and these fish are as tough as welter weight cinnamon bears.
When even a dupont wobbler fails you know you are dealing with the genuine article.
Also, don't drag your hand in the water when out in a boat!

Also, don't drag your hand in the water when out in a boat!My Ding-A-Ling My Ding
When I was a little biddy boy
My grandma bought me a cute little toy
Two Silver bells on a string
She told me it was my ding-a-ling-a-ling
My Ding-A-Ling My Ding-A-Ling won't you play with My Ding-A-Ling
My Ding-A-Ling My Ding-A-Ling won't you play with My Ding-A-Ling
When I was little boy In Grammar school
Always went by the very best rule
But Evertime the bell would ring
You'd catch me playing with my ding-a-ling
Once while climbing the garden wall,
Slipped and fell had a very bad fall
I fell so hard I heard birds sing,
But I held on to My ding-a-ling
Once while swimming cross turtle creek
Man them snappers right at my feet
Sure was hard swimming cross that thing
with both hands holding my dingaling
Now this here song it ain't so bad
Prettiest little song that you ever had
And those of you who will not sing must be playing with your on Ding-a-ling
Chuck Berry's only #1 hit.

...don't drag your hand in the water...LOL. I've caught these aggressive monsters on bare hooks! They will strike ANYTHING that they sense.
If you can clean them right, not bad eating.
