Can FR initiate a filter that would spot when someone is about to post something with a link to the same URL of the article that someone else may have posted, and then they would get an 'error' message that this article has already been posted? Might be an idea. Might be problems with that approach, though.

Part of the trouble is, I have found, that often two different newspapers will run the exact same article under different titles.

I'm trying to find a link to yesterday's Ari Fletcher Press Conference, where I understand Helen Thomas got slapped around a little. My searching has failed. Can anyone help me?

What about if something was posted at 1:30 in the morning, and that afternoon you'd like people to see it. Is it okay to repost?

I think this or the breaking news announcement from last night needs to go up on the top of the section before tonight, because people havent seen the message from last night.

I ALWAYS do a search, but lately the same article posted earlier does NOT show up on the search, twice when both had the same title. Don't know why.

In the past it was possible to search not only on words in the article title, but also on the author's name. Many articles of interest are published in more than one newspaper or other media. Unfortunately, titles to articles may differ from forum to forum. However, the author's name is a constant. When that was still a possibility on Free Republic, I found it to be the most reliable way to be sure an article was not previously posted. Why isn't it possible to restore that capability?

BUMP.
As an aside, these incessant Elizabeth Smart/Laci Peterson/other true crime threads are going to drive me to drink.

Make a sticky post and put it at the top of each forum. Short and with pertinent info.
Might help newbies a lot.

Can we get the "airhead celebrity" threads - Sheryl Crow, Dixie Chicks, Martin Sheen, Walter Cronkite (heh) - moved to "General Interest"? These airheads aren't worth our time.

All right, I give up...
I know this question has been asked and answered 147,496,369,342,174 times on this forum - and I know I saved the answer at one time, and **I** **CAN'T** **FIND** **IT**, and I feel REALLY dumb, and I probably am looking right at it.
But that said... HOW can I search for postings (by poster, in this case) going back to, say, 1999 or 2000?
Any search I do, turns up 50 postings, and that's it.
Okay... now if anybody wants to subject me to some choice invective ordinarily reserved only for Demoncrats and other single-celled life forms, NOW'S YOUR CHANCE - I've got it coming.

So there about 375 police cars whizzing by right under my nose going toward Key Bridge and the stupid posting thing wants to know the URL of the story I am eye-witnessing!
That's a problem. Then I posted it to "Breaking News", which it was, and it got almost de-referenced EVEN BEFORE THE TEARGAS WAS TOSSED.
Right now I have nearly a hundred hits on my story, which makes it "BIG TIME" on FR.

Thanks for the tip.
Sometimes, though, mere seconds count, especially with Breaking News, by the time a new post is typed/edited and sent...someone else has posted the topic first!
(Watch those fingers fly! It's like a race against the clock!) :)
Is there anyway to check for other new threads just before hitting the "post" button?
