March 18, 2003 -- TAMPA - Roger Clemens still remembers the dull ache that filled the family living room that terrible evening in 1969, the unguarded fear in his mother's eyes. Dread at the dinner hour. His brother stared straight ahead at the television, watching the numbers tumble onto the screen, until the one he was waiting for appeared. Then Richard Clemens walked wordlessly back to his room and shut the door as his mother fell to her knees, seized with sadness.

Most NY sportswriters are liberals. They get very queasey about writing any political viewpoints from athletes, most of who are republicans. The Yankees are particularly Republican, having twice declined an invitation to the Clinton White House after winning the WS. After winning in 2000, they did visit the Bush White House in 2001.

I have a new found respect for that jerk Steinbrenner.

It upsets me to hear people that aren't fully behind the men and women who do their duty to protect our freedom," Clemens told the cheering crowd. "

Even now, he refuses to watch movies of the war, or talk much about it at all, still hurt by the way he was greeted upon his return.

Dachle, etc. and the anti-war protestors, who insulate themselves from criticism by wrapping themselves in the 1st amendment, are hurting the military and their families in ways they are too stupid and self-righteous to recognize. I will not forget.

I actually kind of like Steinbrenner, but he had nothing to do with the Clinton snub, and was particularly embarassed by it. The ringleaders of the Clinton snub were devout Christians Andy Pettite and Chad Curtis. They refuse to associate themselves with pro-abortion politicians. Good for them.

I forgot to add that Curtis's departure from the team was linked to the Boss' embarassment.

I used to be a bat boy for the Columbus Clippers (dont laugh) and I had the privelage to meet Andy Pettite, Derik Jeter and a host of other stars that are now part of the Yankees. Pettite is a humble and very kind individual. Taught me a slider (or slaaaaader -texas draw). Good guy.

Was he not found guilty for some crime or other associated with Pres. Nixon?
