Well, I guess we'll see how much of a victory this is for Jock-strap. When WMDs are found, the populus will see we weren't kidding. When French invoices are found it may not look so rosy. When their economy bankrupts because of cancelled Iraqi contracts, it will start to stink. When France loses any standing in NATO and is deemed unsuitable to lead the EU, there'll be another French revolution.
Doesn't sound like 'victory'. We know our Texas Cowboy of a President has a good and long memory and I hope he makes the bastards pay.
This resentment will be translated at the negotiation table into demands for national sovereignty to be paramount in the reformed EU.
That would cripple the hope of the unifiers who want the EU to speak with a strong, single voice that would make it equal to the US on the world stage.
The situation in Nato is even more dire, for the US is outraged by the refusal of France, Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg to back military assistance for Turkey.
Washington has warned of cutting back its troop numbers in Germany, the first sign that it will ignore Nato in its strategic thinking and instead assemble "coalitions of the willing" for dealing with crises.
If that is the case, Nato will not have much of a future as a credible organisation.
Here is the heart of the hatred directed at America for remaining independant of these "One Worlder" fanatics.
The utter hopelessness of trying to mix globalist dreams with the intrinsic nationalism built into the genes of every decent nation has now been dragged into the glare of the international spotlight.
France and Germany--severely afflicted with politicians infected by the globalist venom--have grassroots populations who have been among the most powerfully nationalist people over the previous two centuries.
This conflict between globalist vs nationalists expectations has created bitter internal struggles in the politics of France and Germany. The success of America in Iraq will prove the power and independance of nationalism--one great nation among other individual nations of the world.
America's example today may well deal a death-blow to the "One World" EU dreams of Chirac and Schroeder--dreams that are based on and require the willingness of America to give up big chunks of her sovereignty and her wealth in order to be allowed to live under the blue flags of the UN and NATO.
Those European dreams of One Worlders like Schroeder and Chirac that America would become complicit in her own suicide as a nation are about to be shattered.
