the family's spokesman has fielded more than 3,000 media calls and received nearly 100 film, book or made-for-TV-movie proposals.

My 15-year-old daughter (the same age as Elizabeth) brought this up yesterday: "What if the family planned the whole thing in order to make a book and movie about it?"

That's disgusting. The Smarts have enough money, didn't need to think anything up to get more fame and notoriety.

Although I have my severe doubts about an "abduction", I do not think this is the case. If so, they are incredibly stupid. Here's why: First, it would be eventually found out. Secondly, Emmanuel wouldn't fit in with a "planned" story. He would be going down for kidnapping and who knows what else. And lastly, the Smarts would face criminal charges for it, not to mention the fury of the American people.

I'd say your daughter had more brains in her pinky nail than a lot of adults...

If you hadn't said you had a 15 year old daughter, I would have thought that was your age for even bringing up something so utterly despicable as that. It's like the anti-Smart people are upset that Elizabeth is home.

What if the parents/child planned it to cover an unwanted pregnancy - after nine months the baby is somewhere and Elizabeth returns looking too filled out. Next, the chance to make the "adventure" into film, book form. Hope this is not the case, and if it would be along those lines, our society would be guilty of endorsing anything sensationalist, of craving to be in other people's business and to glorify it by making movies out of the dirt of the human heart. I pray their 15 minutes in the spotlight are over, don't want to hear any more for good or bad - they should not be made popular because of their "trial".

"My 15 year old daughter...brought this up [book and film offers] yesterday, "What if the family planned the whole thing in order to make a book and movie about it."

I am surprised that you and your daughter were not thoroughly trashed on this thread by the Smart fantatists explaining to you that perhaps your daughter was not raised in , to paraphrase one poster, the soft ways and soft living of the priveleged. Lucky girl.

If nothing else, this case has demonstrated what has been called America's native derangement about caste and class.

I wonder how many people would respond to your daughter's statement with, "Thou sayest it."
