My bet is that the CIA didn't carefully examine the documents because they were obtained from an outstanding source. The documents were forged by an Iraqi, left where some key Iraqi on our payroll found them, smuggled them to his contacts, and were, in turn, given to the UN.
The Iraqis gain all around. They make us look dumb AND cover real purchases of nuclear material. They also identify the guy working for us. I suspect he and his extended family are now all former Iraqis.

Hmmmmm!
The UN says they're fake.
So?
The UN's credibility is about the same level as Klintoon.
Ignore them.

lawyer trick, find one fake or credibility issue and then you call into question all the real evidence. Lets say this one is a fake, does that erase the last 12 years?

This is a steaming pile of CNN (CommunistNewsNetwork) propaganda. This poster has had dozens of banned FR aliases all posting the same kind of anti-America tin-foil hat propaganda.

Why the dumdums on TV like Alan Colmes can't comprehend the logic behind NOT releasing classified information baffles me. THIS is why.

Seems to me that ElBaradei should be embarrassed as well.

The UN says they're fake. So? I quit reading after that first line thinking 'Now there's a credible source'. Oh, I hear the Iraqis are going to finally produce documentation of their destruction of the Anthrax & VX. They're just waiting for the ink to get good and dry.

Check out Tacis' response in post #3. One of the best explanations I've seen so far.

Obvious fakes? And does anyone else believe the inspectors for one moment on this issue? I honeslty believe that if the US wanted to forge documents, they could do it well enough to fool those idiots.
So it remains - why are the inspectors destroying/hiding evidence? Does Saddam have something on them, or did he just buy them off?

El Baradei, an Egyptian, doesn't want a war against a fellow Moslem.

A U.S. intelligence official said that the documents were passed on to the International Atomic Energy Agency within days of being received with the comment, " 'We don't know the provenance of this information, but here it is.' " UGH! HERE IS THE KEY. The U.S. official never claimed these were dispositive or even genuine. Had he said "Oh crap these are junk!" and thrown them away, if the IAEA found out about it later they'd then accuse us of hiding documents!
This is one of those "Either way, American is wrong!" predicaments the third worlders at the U.N. always like to put us in. Best way to deal with this whole "event" is to ignore it.
