Here's a fun test...try to think of a product or "something" that is not itself hauled; or has it's raw materials or transport mechanism hauled by a truck(s). Closest I can come is coal. Although trucks are used somewhat nowadays in the maintenance and construction of the railway network, the network was first constructed before there even was such a thing as a truck.

The railroad never did move anything to the retail customer's home--it still had to be carried by foot, or horse drawn wagon.(that's why truckers' union is called TEAMSTERS).
