TO MY FELLOW CHRISTIANS: THE FLAG IS AN IDOL!
Flag Or The Cross? ^
Posted on 03/14/2003 8:03:57 PM PST by LalahLand
I am curious to find out why some of my fellow Christians still recite the pledge of allegiance. When you "pledge your allegiance" to an inanimate object you are basically worshipping that object. Am I missing something here? Why do some of us choose to salute and break one of the most important commandments? Shouldn't our pledge of allegiance be to God, and not a piece of cloth? The pledge of allegiance to the flag basically states that we will (blindly) support the flag and the actions of our government without question. That is the very essence of what idolatry is all about! Please check out the attached article.
idol SYLLABICATION: i·dol PRONUNCIATION: AUDIO: dl KEY NOUN: 1a. An image used as an object of worship. b. A false god. 2. One that is adored, often blindly or excessively.
idolatry SYLLABICATION: i·dol·a·try PRONUNCIATION: AUDIO: -dl-tr KEY NOUN: Inflected forms: pl. i·dol·a·tries 1. Worship of idols. 2. Blind or excessive devotion to something.

Welcome to FR. BTW, you did just fine. :-)

What LaLahLand failed to consider is that to be 'one nation under God' it means we are under His word - a land of righteous people trying our best to do His work...
But, maybe that's just me...

"But, maybe that's just me..."You did fine... that guy/gal had an "agenda" -- probably will report back to his "church" on Sunday about how he "spread the Truth" to us pagans here.

"He/she might have been ok if they laid low for awhile, but they went off and posted another vanity thread. That's ZOT! time." I've been trolling over at DU for well over a year and have racked up over 1000 posts. I built up my liberal "credentials" before I started having fun with them.
Liberals don't seem to be able to do the conservative shtick right. They play up the hyperbole and expose themselves too easily.

It is precisely because of that phrase "under God" that Christians can in perfectly good conscience pledge their allegiance to the flag. The phrase "under God" affirms that our allegiance to God takes priority over our allegiance to our country and its flag. Remove this little phrase, and Christians would indeed have trouble with the flag pledge.

I had heard negative things about his site but I didn't believe that could be the case with a conservative forum.I believe this is referred to as a 'self-fulfilling prophesy'...
