I am curious to find out why some of my fellow Christians still recite the pledge of allegiance. When you "pledge your allegiance" to an inanimate object you are basically worshipping that object. Am I missing something here? Why do some of us choose to salute and break one of the most important commandments? Shouldn't our pledge of allegiance be to God, and not a piece of cloth? The pledge of allegiance to the flag basically states that we will (blindly) support the flag and the actions of our government without question. That is the very essence of what idolatry is all about! Please check out the attached article.

All of the rights that you have are given to you by God.
Our flag represents the country that recognizes that our rights are "God-given" and not "government given".
We do not give praise to America because it gives us these rights, we give praise to America (and its flag) because it realizes that God gives us these rights, and reccognizes where these rights come from.

Bzzzzt. You're barking up the wrong tree.
Let's start with the Pledge: When you recite it, you are pledging your support and alliance with the flag and the "republic for which it stands." Or in simpler English for those like you who apparantly do not understand what is being said, you are pledging your support to this nation, of which you are a citizen. You are pledging to defend this nation from enemies who would do it harm.
That's a far cry from "worshipping" it.
You are completely out of line when you accuse my cohorts here of not being Christian. You don't get to make that determination; God does.
Love her to death. Love spending time with her, think of her constantly, pray for her often.
The fact that I know, and openly admit, that she is crazy does not imply that I do not love her.
Read into that what you will.
Yep, I read the link. You are very obviously a victim of "cut and paste" theology. It's very prevelant in some circles.
Now please be honest with me. What was your motive for coming here? Did you really want discussion, or did you want everyone to just agree with your pre-determined beliefs? Tell me the answer to that one honestly, and I'll continue the discussion.
You first.
We still hold no gods before God.
LOL! You're bad.
I am curious to find out why some of my fellow Christians still recite the pledge of allegiance.
Because I believe in and have devoted my time, talent, and treasure to the words and the concept behind the words, and it is one way that I can pay my respects to my country.
When you "pledge your allegiance" to an inanimate object you are basically worshipping that object.
Nonsense. Worship is worship and respect is respect, and never the twain shall meet.
Why, you yourself define an "idol" as "One that is adored, often blindly or excessively". Considering that many people spend at least a couple of hours a week at their church worshipping whichever God they choose, how could my paying public respect for a few seconds every once in a while to my country be considered "blind? or "excessive"?
My country has been very good to me and my family. I don't have to worry about giardia or other nasties when drinking water out of the tap, the stores are full of reasonably priced fresh vegetables and food, I can go and do pretty much whatever I please, and I do work that I enjoy and that pays me what the marketplace considers my labor to be worth. My country provides me with everything that I need to be happy, and I wouldn't be happy living anywhere else.
That's not blindness or obsession, that's simply the environment that I live in and would defend to the death if asked.
Am I missing something here?
Probably. Let's examine that.
Why do some of us choose to salute and break one of the most important commandments?
False, silly premise. Which Commandment mentions the United States by name? Do you believe that Jesus was lying when He said, "Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesars; and unto God the things that are Gods"?
Shouldn't our pledge of allegiance be to God, and not a piece of cloth?
God already knows what is in my mind and heart, so any loud, public demonstration of my love for Him would simply be showing off. (Rather like you are doing by posting trollbait). One of the reasons I recite the Pledge and salute the flag is to shove my figurative thumb in the eye of liberals as well as trolls such as yourself (but I repeat myself).
The pledge of allegiance to the flag basically states that we will (blindly) support the flag and the actions of our government without question.
You must be reciting the "Bob Marley" version of said pledge, where the words register only after passing through a miasma of some sort of intoxicant. Your problem could be organic in nature as well - don't try this at home and see a medical professional if you're not sure.
Now get out of my sight.
