Boston Globe Reporter Expelled From Iraq

BOSTON -- A Boston Globe reporter was expelled from Iraq after using a satellite phone from his hotel room to file a story, the newspaper said.

David Filipov, 40, the newspaper's Moscow bureau chief, arrived in Jordan on Friday after being ordered out of Iraq the day before.

Jim Smith, the Globe's foreign editor, said Filipov was expelled by Iraqi authorities after he used a satellite phone from his room to send a story that described an Iraqi drone as being held together by duct tape and bearing the words: "God is Great."

"It was a story that should have been regarded as useful for Iraq in telling its story and responding to allegations that it had a very impressive and dangerous drone," Smith said.

Reporters are told they must use and keep their satellite phones at the press center in Baghdad.

Too funny. The "Brew Dall" dictator kicks out the reporter that is probably the most sympathetic to his regime - from the Boston Globe! Home of the bow-tied Clinton bumkissers! Too funny.

I haven't seen one shred of useful information from any of the print or broadcast "journalists" stationed in Dadhbag. They all merely parrot the Iraqi line.

Remember all those TV reports back during Gulp War I? The chyron on the screen said, "Cleared by ... censors." The same is true today, it seems. They just don't tell us about it.

They just don't tell us about it.

I think that's part of the deal with the devil: no disclaimers allowed.

I'll never forget CNN covering the Iraqi election last year as if it was an actual cliffhanger.

"With 99% of the vote counted, we can now safely predict that Saddam Hussein has won the election, with 99% of the vote. Back to you, Chris."

Iraq frequently expels journalists they don't like, this leads to a much more compliant western press because if they report the TRUTH about Iraq(not sure if they recognize truth after being in Bagdad for a while anyway)

The idiot as much as admits that the Globe is working to help Iraq. There's no media bias. Right!

Didn't some BBC bimbo just complain yesterday the the US would not guarantee her safety if she used a satellite transmitter?

I guess this liberal's paradise just isn't working out for the jelly headed do gooders that are reporters or human shields. They go if they don't do what saddam says. Just like the "homies".

No duct tape here. Just more evidence of a lying Boston Globe reporter,
eager to see the USA lose.

Don't worry Boston Globe you can print your liberal bias from Bagdad again. There won't be any Iraqi authorities in charge in a few days.

being held together by duct tape

Isn't there an AN spec for duct tape?

There's an amazing amount of use for tape on airplanes. We used to use masking tape for lots of stuff while towing banners. It was guaranteed to break when you wanted it to, but hold until then.

Filipov's father was on the plane that was flown into the WTC, so I'd imagine he has as much or more reason to be angry at al-Quaida as anyone else.

Sorry to hear that. I'm not acquainted with his work, just the Globe in general.
