Both CNN and USA Today have debunked this theory COMPLETELY. The article in USA Today was about one month ago and I don't have a link - sorry - but the majority of soldiers are not minorities even if you add all the groups together!

I can't stand when people say thee military is disproprtionally black. Because one is in the military does not mean they are in constant significant danger. The combat arms troops (infantry, armor, special forces) do all of the close combat. Here blacks are not well represented, only 9% of the infantry is black as opposed to 26% of the military overall, Special forces are less than 3% black. This is an all volunteer force where you pick your job. It would be nice to have better black representation in the combat arms, but those jobs have to be volunteered for.

Actually credit for the original and total debunking -complete with charts and figures- goes back to the Wall Street Journal article from some time ago. There is a thread on it somewhere.

The debunking went so far as to point out that whites were disporportionally represented in combat arms and that blacks were in REMF capacities by choice because "they were in it for the educational benefits".
Ironically, the supply chain is still essentially segregated (like in WWII) this time by choice of the blacks.
