Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Passed in US Senate – US House urged to act quickly and send pro-life bill to President Bush for signature

WASHINGTON - March 13, 2003 -- The U.S. Senate today passed the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act, a bill to ban the grisly partial-birth abortion procedure nationwide. This pro-life bill passed by a wide margin of 63 to 33, and now goes to the U.S. House of Representatives, where it enjoys strong support. President George W. Bush supports a partial-birth abortion ban, and has pledged that “when Congress sends me a bill against partial-birth abortion, I will sign it into law.”

The Pro-Life Campaign Committee is urging the U.S. House of Representatives to take up this legislation immediately, and urges pro-life citizens nationwide to contact their Representatives to urge immediate passage. Pro-lifers can easily contact their representatives by visiting www.ProLifeAction.com. This website features an on-line petition in support of a partial-birth abortion ban, as well as tools to help pro-lifers write their elected officials, write letters to the editor, register to vote and much more.

In 1996 and 1997, Congress passed legislation to ban partial-birth abortion. This legislation was vetoed by President Clinton and pro-life advocates failed in their attempts to override this veto.

In July 2002, the U.S. House of Representatives a partial-birth abortion ban, 274-151. However, the bill was blocked in the U.S. Senate by then Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-SD). Senator Daschle, a close ally of the pro-abortion lobby, used his powers as Majority Leader to block a vote on the bill.

Passage of the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act has been a top priority for the Pro-Life Campaign Committee and pro-life advocates nationwide. The Pro-Life Campaign Committee has used direct mail, phone banks, a grassroots petition and the Internet to educate pro-life citizens about partial-birth abortion and to encourage people to contact their Representatives and Senators in support of a ban. This grassroots effort, combined with all the efforts by other pro-life organizations and advocates nationwide, has made a tremendous difference.

The Pro-Life Campaign Committee is federal political action committee dedicated to saving unborn children from abortion. Its goal is to help move our nation toward a culture that values life, and to make unborn children welcome in life and protected by law. The Pro-Life Campaign Committed believes in expanding the pro-life movement by building bridges across faith backgrounds. Toward this end, a special goal of the Pro-Life Campaign Committee has been to reach out to the Jewish community and bring more Jewish leaders into the pro-life movement.

Sometimes with all the liberals running their mouths on the media, I think that there's no hope for the country, then I hear news like this and I see it as a sure sign that all is not lost. Even as little as 5 years ago, during the darkest days of the sink-meister a bill like this wouldn't stand a prayer. Now it's going through and the dark forces of liberalism are too focused on their current anti-American stance to rally against it. If GWB can accomplish this much in his presidency, he'll go down as one of the champions of human rights in this century.

Not weird at all. He wants to run for the presidency. Damn few people hold this form of PBA to be a vote winner. Most who "defend" it do so only on the "weakening of Roe" argument, and don't like to answer anything resembling a tough question about.

I was watching CNN (don't ask me why) and they where discussing this story and the anchor kept referring to partial birth abortion as "a certain type of late-term abortion". They never once used the phrase "partial birth abortion".

Who wants to bet this law winds up in the Supreme Court?

Exactly. I'm willing to wager the Supremes have had second thoughts about Stenhart so they'll probably want to take the opportunity to determine what type of PBA ban will pass constitutional muster.

Can anyone calculate approximately how many babies were murdered as a result of the Sinkmaster's veto?
