NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Stocks surged Thursday afternoon, with investors using signs that a likely war with Iraq will be delayed as a good excuse to buy after two sessions of selling, aided by a strong U.S. dollar and strong gains in European markets.

I love CNN's interpretations of the market. How does one deduce that it has anything to do with a delay of the War? It might have more to do with the certainty of it, and, perhaps, Blair's refusal to waffle. The market dips 25 points and it's Doom and Gloom in 50 point type. A 200+ point rally and they still have to find an Anti-Republican spin to it.

What will they do if the war lasts a week and the market goes back to the high 8000s?

I think it went up because the House passed caps on damages from lawsuits.
