Hello, are we as a nation waiting for another squadron of hijacked jumbo jets to fly into another American city skyline before we do anything to protect ourselves? After that, do we need the hijackers to paint the Iraqi flag on the side of the jets before we believe Iraq is complicit in its support of terrorism? After reading the reviews on President Bushs magnificent press conference, the answer from the lib media would unfortunately have to be, yes.
President Bush clearly showed he means business. He informed the world and our allies we would go in without them if necessary. Our self-defense never seemed to capture the imagination of the liberal media who seemed to be more like interrogating agents of the Hussein regime last night than members of the American press corps. President Bush told the American people his first job is to protect and defend the Constitution and therefore his first priority was the protection of American citizens. He is absolutely correct. We should never allow a foreign power dictate to us how and when we will defend our people especially when many of those foreign powers in question are free because of our kindness and benevolence. As a matter of fact, if not for American military presence in France and Germany both the French and the Germans would be speaking German.
The questions asked by the press ran the entire gamut from serious to I-have-to-say-something-important-so-my-mom-will-be-proud. The serious questions were raised about time of attack and Northern front problems, which the President handled masterfully and answered to any thinking persons satisfaction. The Mom will be proud question came from a guy who is already trying to tie this war to Vietnam. He wanted to know how the President was going to handle an escalation and constant bloodletting in Iraq bringing back memories of Southeast Asia. Hello, dumb-ass reporter, did you watch what happened in 1991? Did you watch those Republican Guard lap dogs surrendering en masse? Didnt you read the intelligence reports that state the Iraqi military capability is far below 1991 standards? My friend this is going to be an ass whooping that even Ajax wont wash off. Oh, by the way, wasnt it great to see that smarmy, arrogant Helen Thomas get snubbed by President Bush last night? I loved it; she is being shown who is the real big dog in this house. Good for her, maybe next time she wont write such mean-spirited, inflammatory comments about President Bush.
I dont know how many more times President Bush will have to make the case for defending ourselves and liberating the people of Iraq. It doesnt matter because President Bush is doing a masterful job of guiding us through this most troubling time and will continue to do so. God bless you, Mr. President.
I received a call the other night from a friend who told me she was being activated and sent to the Persian Gulf. The fear and consternation was clear in her voice but also present was the idea and belief that our cause is just. She was not so concerned for herself but for the boys she would have to treat as a Navy medic. It is never a pleasant thought to have to go to war. I have always said that the most anti-war folks you will ever meet are the soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines and Coasties of the U.S Military. These individuals are the ones who never want war because it is they who will have to fight it. There is a huge difference between the soldier who doesnt want war and the pot-smoking malcontent who skips school to protest books not bombs. The difference is when America calls the soldier answers the call whereas the pot-smoking malcontent will run and hide looking for a way out of paying for the freedom they have thus far enjoyed.
I guess in the end, the thought must be, freedom isnt free. Sometimes the investment is a quiet protest of not giving up your bus seat. Sometimes the investment is as painful as giving up your only child to war in another continent. Either way, neither sacrifice is any less than the other. Both deeds take tremendous courage and faith in your cause and tremendous courage and faith are as American as apple pie.
One last thing, a bunch of reporters kept trying to bring attention to the actions of the anti-war protesters. I have a thought and a question to pose to the protesters out there. What if you win? What if your actions are such that President Bush buckles and gives in by removing troops from the gulf? What do you say when an emboldened Saddam Hussein feeling he has defeated the Great Satan now moves on Kuwait and Israel? What do you say when he continues to use NBC (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical) warfare against his own people and his surrounding neighbors? At that point, you will be forced to face the consequences of your actions and make a determination of whether you were anti-war or anti-American. I fully realize protesting your government is a tradition as old as the country itself but if you protest for our demise or cheer for our enemys victory where do you go in the event you win? Do you think a conquering Saddam is going to hail you as some kind of enlightened hero? The answer is no, he will kill you as soon as look at you. You protesters, unfortunately, have not figured out that you are Saddams version of Lenins Useful Idiots. That is a shame but at least America gives you the freedom to be a Useful Idiot. Anyway, until next week. This is Bill Roberts.
