All the inane comments on this thread you started have me wondering if FReepers believe carrying large sums of cash or negotiable securities is or should be a crime everywere in the civilized world.

Or is this one of those personal decisions, like carrying personal protection (i.e., a weapon), over which no legitimate government should exercise control?

Just curious.

It's Germany. I don't know or care what laws they have over there. It's their country, and apparently they are going to launch a criminal investigation.

I'm just amazed that Don Johnson somehow got his hands on $8 billion.

$8,000,000,000 is alot of money.

Actually the best way to launder money is to just take small amounts to different out of the way casinos and exchange for chips..and back to dollars

I'm gussing Don was on the way to a Swiss bank or somesort of establishement that does not report to authorities, there is no other reason for carrying that much paper around.

Strange comment for someone with your screen handle.

No, carrying large sums of cash or securities is not a crime in itself. However, it generally points to the prior committal of some nefarious act, which was criminal.

A bit like having crumbs and chocolate stains around your mouth as a kid. Not a reason for parental scolding in itself. However, it generally meant that you had just raided the cookie jar, which most certainly was on the "no-no" list.
