Call the Vote. Walk Away

Walk away, Mr. President. Walk away from the U.N. Security Council. It will not authorize the coming war. You can stand on your head and it won't change the outcome. You can convert to Islam in a Parisian mosque and it won't prevent a French veto.
The French are bent not just on opposing your policy but on destroying it -- and the coalition you built around it. When they send their foreign minister to tour the three African countries on the Security Council in order to turn them against the United States, you know that this is a country with resolve -- more than our side is showing today. And that is a losing proposition for us.

Be short signted and take the call and walk away Mr. Bush.
While you are at it, get the US out of the UN. On the way out please shut the door.

Excellent column. Krauthammer is always crisp and right on point.
I agree totally with CK's suggestion for a one-line resolution - "Resolved, that Iraq is in violation of UN resolutions 687, ..., 1441."
W should go there to put it on the table. No debate - just vote. Look the MFers in the eye and dare them to veto it. If they do, pull out a telephone and say "GO." Or pull out a big red button and push it.
If they don't veto it, pull out another resolution that says "Resolved, Saddam Hussein has until 17 March 2003 to leave Iraq with this list of henchmen and present himself to the International Criminal court for trial. Or else"

I can hardly wait to read the NYTimes and other pink media when W tells the UN to leave NYC because of the security risk.

I adore Krauthammer, but I suspect Bush has something up his sleeve...
While he builds up our forces for the Mother of All Battles, he's also in the process of proving to the world that, despite his efforts to "save" it, the UN has become totally irrelevant and meaningless.
Look at the polls... Even the sheeple are awakening to that farce of an organization and that is a good thing!

From the full column...
If you must have a second resolution, it should consist of a single sentence: "The Security Council finds Iraq in violation of Resolution 1441, which demanded 'full and immediate compliance by Iraq without conditions or restrictions.' "
I was thinking, how about this for a one-line resolution instead:
"The Security Council finds Iraq in full compliance of Resolution 1441 which demanded 'full and immediate compliance by Iraq without conditions or restrictions.'"
I'm serious. This would throw everybody for a loop. Even the French would not be able to say that Iraq is in full compliance as they are on record multiple times as saying that more time is needed. They would have to vote no. Everybody would have to vote no. Thus, the United States will have their unaminous vote yet again!

I agree. Mr President, it is time to stop dithering. The French will do their utmost to frustrate us. We need to move along now. With or without the rest of the world. We are at a crossroads. We need to do what is right for America and we need to do it now.
To: SamAdams76
It is better to play it straight. If you put your resolution out, the Vichies will say that voting in favor of that resolution is better than war. Hell they've already said that.

This column of Krauthammer's reminds me of the one he wrote blasting Bush for not going in and taking Kabul right before . . . . we went in and took Kabul.

He's too shrewd to let this one fail. I know how impatient I am, but I've known the UN stinks for years! Just look at how mad the sheeple are getting.
I know it's frustrating for us - but Bush is an absolute artist when it comes to a finesse. UNLESS he's over-estimated the UN. But with his cabinet, I doubt it seriously.

I like Charles Krauthammer's suggestion. It has the virtue of simplicity and it would force the French, not us, to explain why they are defying the Security Council and the expressed will of the international community given only a couple of months back to disarm Saddam Hussein of his weapons of mass destruction. Time to make them put up or shut up. And whatever the outcome of the vote, walk out and attack Iraq at once.

...I fear this one will be Armageddon. We have to be ready.

Americans are growing in support of the war and in opposition to the U.N. This truly has surprised me..it seemed to me with all the diplomatic debates, folks would like to see diplomacy continue. But, they are pissed off at Kofi!
