US Concludes It Has Wiped Out Most Iraqi Air Defenses

A United States review indicates a lion's share of Iraq air defence batteries have been destroyed.
United States officials and Western diplomatic souces say United States Central Command has assessed that allied war planes have destroyed all stationary Iraq anti-aircraft batteries in Southern and Northern Iraq.
They said that many of the mobile systems have also been destroyed, particularly in southern Kuwait.
The United States attacks on Iraqi anit-aircraft batteries have also been accompanied by accelerated psychological operations.
On Monday United States and British aircraft operating from Turkey's Incerlik air base dropped 240,000 leaflets on two locations-South of Tall Afar and Southwest of Lake Saddam

I get the distinct impression that by the time the war "officially" starts, there will be little of military value in Iraq left to destroy.
Motto: It is always easier to beg forgiveness after the fact than to ask permission beforehand. Not that we have anything to apologize for in this case

Sounds like a nice slow-simmering war began without telling us to break open the beer!

This really fascinates me. I wonder how far this quiet escalation will go? It seems our boys could do quite a bit under the cover of the "no-fly zones" .
I'd love to see SOF take control quietly of al-basra in the south and kirkuk and other places of the north, or at significantly degrade the armored units in those areas.
