Britain Says No Vote on Iraq Resolution Tuesday
reuters ^ | 3/10/03

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Britain's ambassador to the United Nations said on Monday he did not expect a resolution setting a March 17 ultimatum to Iraq would be brought to a vote in the Security Council on Tuesday. Sir Jeremy Greenstock told reporters: "I do not expect in the circumstances we find ourselves in just now that there would be a vote on our draft resolution within the next 24 hours."

U.S. ambassador John Negroponte confirmed there would be no vote Tuesday.

The United States and Britain originally set Tuesday as the target date for a vote. The resolution gives Iraq until March 17 to satisfy all members that it was fully cooperating with U.N. disarmament demands.

But Washington and London currently lack the nine votes needed to pass a resolution in the 15-member Council and the resolution faces a French and Russian veto.

The french and the Russians and the Chinese have already promised a Veto, so the vote is moot anyway. Franks is en route back to the theater; Let's roll.

meanwhile the weather gets worse. Bush is screwing this one up and it's not a congressional vote at stake, but lives...time to go now.

With Iraq now setting up their oil fields to expldoe (according to news reports), it's time to dismiss the UN and go to action, before Saddam can make even more preparations.

Now.... if Blix were to come clean to the UN and for the Iraq teamsters union (Russia, France, Germany, and China) who have so much finacial agreements in place with Iraq, perhaps they would be shamed into changing their positions...... but I doubt it.

I don't see us going to the UN for much again..... but I see us Vetoing just about anything France, Russia, Germany, or China want for the next year of two or three.

It's the sandstorms that are the problem...

France is just looking for someone else to issue the veto. I think that's what a lot of the dancing is about now. The Russians are stupid to say they will veto now because the French will dance out of the way and let the Russians do it if they have a chance. OTOH, if we had let the Russians know for sure, for sure that it won't be coming to a vote, then it makes sense. I don't care. I disagree with the Russians on this but at least they haven't been out in public smearing us for the last three months. Funny world but the Russkies are the ones acting like the grownups. Maybe not so funny -- they are used to making serious decisions that matter. The frogs are not.

From Yahoo News Singapore I have this(through Drudge):

"With around a quarter of a million battle-ready US troops poised to invade Iraq -- and tens of thousands of British soldiers also standing by -- Powell said Sunday that military action could begin before the Monday deadline if the resolution fails."

Let's just tell Brave Tony this:

"Hey Man, thanks for the support, we don't really need your troops, why don't you go home and mend fences and we'll just go ahead on and do what we gotta do."

I don't know if coalition war fighting is really worth the communication and management problems they cause.

It's the sandstorms that are the problem.

Fortunately the weather effects both sides, and we are usually better equipped to fight in bad weather than our enemies.

When the talk of the dreaded Afghan winter was posited to demoralize us, I felt if anyone can fight in cold weather it is us. Before we entered Afghanistan, the Afghans actually quit fighting among themselves in the winter because of the conditions. We didn't have any problem with the winter fighting.

Now it is the dreaded Iraqui summer we have to face. Granted fighting in a hazmat suit in 100 degree weather is a problem and it should be avoided.

I hope we go in the next 10 days for that reason. - Tom

Bush's continued insistence on delaying the inevitable only strengthens his enemies, both in Iraq and in the peace movement. It comes off as a tacit acknowledgement that we only have moral authority through the U.N.

It really surprises me that we don't air condition our tanks and hazmat suits. Not that we should (this is tongue-in-cheek) but it seems like something we would do.
