Well, I'm real glad a bunch of good folks here on FR and elsewhere stuck their nose into the issues in Klamath.
If this man doesn't want to sell, and he has homesteaded his property, he should not be coersed into doing so IMHO.
There are some things worth standing for ... and worth going to other's sides and standing with them for. Each has to make their own decision in that regard. This thread is giving people that opportunity.
There are some folks who don't stand for anything.

Here's the email I sent Govenor Bush:
Governor Bush,
It has come to my attention that a disabled Navy veteran, Jesse Hardy, who has homesteaded his property and adopted a seven year old boy, is in danger of being run off of his land there in southern Florida if he does not come to terms with the Cabinet directed the Department of Environmental Protection land acquisition agents.
My understanding is that this man's 160 acres would not adversely effect the plans the state has for the other land in that area.
My general belief is, that short of absolute national security issues, or abject health issues impacting the life of citizens, that emminent domain laws have no place being used by any state, county or municipality to acquire citizen's property without their consent. Otherwise we make a mockery of the property rights that so many Americans, dating back to the Revolutionary War have fought, bled and died defending.
Please Governor, call of the speculators, environmentalists and administrators. Let this man live in peace on his own property.
Sincerely,
Jeff Head

Don't waste your breath Jeff. You're talking to one of the most freedom hating posters on this board.
I don't know why he bothers replying to my posts (which I never ping him to), as all I do is smack him in the back of the head and keep on walking.
Bless you and your patient and reasoned way of handling yourself.

Well, I know I would want folks to come to my assistance if I was in a similar circumstance ... and I can't ever expect that to happen IMHO if I am not willing to help others.
Basic Christian principles here as far as I am concerned ... do unto others as you would have done unto you ... and love others as yourself.
Best Fregards.
Jeff

I know. I am still pissed about it too.
Neo-cons are anti-property rights as well. That is why i didn't vote for W. in '00 and will not vote for him in '04.

You both are hero's in my book, The intent was genuine and the final Sawgrass rally down here was not what we hoped for, but the word got out non the less.
Thanks for doing the letter. Everyones part how big or how small eventually has an effect.

You know, the USA may be the greatest nation in the world, but when I read stores like this one it makes me think otherwise. How dare those in power think they can "BUY" out someone from their home just so it can rot!!!!!
There are some people who don't live with the same ideas as the majority of folks in this country. Money means nothing to them and no amount will cause them to change their mind.
I'll be praying all goes well for this fella and he's left alone to live the life of his chosing along with his son.

I was so concerned that I actually read the SFWMD document on this.
http://www.evergladesplan.org/pm/program/program_docs/pmp_30_sgge/sgge_pmp_0301_main.pdf
It appears from the document that the plan to recover the Southern Golden Gates Estates (SGGE) has been on going since 1985, and that the state has actively purchasing property since 1998 (page 1-13). Up to that page, the document gives details the effect that the SGGE has had on the salinity, water tables, wild fires, and fresh water shock to the 10,000 Islands Preserve to the south.
Knowing first hand about the effects of drought in Florida (well went dry), it is hard to turn ones nose up at a million plus dollars.

Letter sent to Gov. Bush. This is local for me, I'm in Collier county. Bump to the top!!
To: Mr. Quarterpanel
I believe everything published by Audobon, The Nature Conservency, etc. etc. Most of SFWMD findings are based on bad science. They cannot not even figure out correct elevations. I can prove it with a simple GPS. I live appx. 6 miles north of Jesse's property, amd my well has never run dry.

The good people of Florida are well able to decide this sort of local issue themselves without Ohioans chiming in, telling them how they should conduct their own affairs.

Tony and AAA, you are our heros as well! I have read some of these posts that think this man should sell just because of supposed 6 figures..makes me damned mad! There are more things more precious than money and to name a few of them are life, liberty and justice==FREEDOM!!!!
There are many other forumns sending out your urgent message on the need for letters/faxes and emails, so I hope that cheers you up some! Will write mine in a few...by the way on fellow mentioned USCS 42 1982 and I add 1983!!!!! We are using them here and our land patents as well, as well as tons of other stuff we have dug up on the NPS and others.....
