1,200 turn out with flags in square; 300 opponents show at Central Library
Nearly 1,200 supporters of a war against Iraq withstood heavy snow and bitter winds Saturday to stage a rally at Cathedral Square in downtown Milwaukee.
About a mile west, nearly 300 assembled inside the Milwaukee Public Library in a rally for peace and celebration of International Women's Day.
Views at both rallies reflected the national debate that continues as the world watches the U.S. buildup of nearly 300,000 troops on the borders of Saddam Hussein's Iraq.
Polls show most Americans support President Bush but would like the administration to win international backing before using force.
An ABC-Washington Post poll last week found that 59% of adults support Bush's plan to disarm Iraq, by force if necessary, although almost half of the supporters said they had serious reservations about a war.
In Omaha, Neb., Saturday, nearly 5,000 rallied to back military action, and former Democratic U.S. Sen. Bob Kerrey was there to urge support for U.S. troops.

From the article:
Lawyer and former Ald. Larraine McNamara-McGraw said supporters of peace must fight misconceptions pushed by war supporters.
"We have never turned our backs on soldiers but are trying to bring them home," she said. "Our president, Bush II, who was selected and not elected, is perceived (internationally) as leading a war of vengeance, not justice.".
Milwaukee School Board member Jennifer Morales told the gathering she had grown tired of being branded un-American because of her views..
"We are free, so I will speak my mind," she said. "We have enough of an open mind to challenge the simplistic propaganda of our government.".
No U.S. flags were in evidence at the peace rally.
I highlight these two passages to point out that almost to a person, the anti-disarmament of the crazed fool Saddam crowd are the same disgruntled slackers that supported the Quisling Gore and his attempt to end-run the Constitution in order to sieze power in 2000. Also to point out that, irregardless of their protestation about patriotism or lack thereof, they wouldn't be caught dead standing anywhere in sight of the Stars and Stripes.

Keep it up girls (and dudes who look like girls)! Keep getting bent about - and chant - "Selected, not elected", in the hopes anybody gives a damn. I hope, I hope, I hope they keep this up. It's a monsterous loser "issue" for them. The public would rather have an adult like Bush in the WH. The fact that they can't let it go and that it is always central to their message shows categorically that their beef with the war is purely political vs any genuine regard for the nation's interest. They're scum. I always needle this Lefty I know by saying slowly and clearly saying "PRESIDENT Bush" when referring to him. Pisses him off to no end. :D

One explained his hesitancy this way: "Saddam Hussein is the devil," he said. "And that's all you have to know."Like many other Iraqi refugees, Salehi supports a U.S. invasion of his homeland -- but only if Hussein is stripped of the power he's held since 1979. "All the (Iraqis) in this country are still scared of Saddam," Salehi explained through a translator. "Because Saddam has hands over here, too. I mean, who knows? He's everywhere. But we're not scared of him. He's already killed a lot of members of my family."
""Today Moswi, 39, explains to anyone who will listen that in Hussein's Iraq, people are often forced to protest. Fail to obey and you become a target. You could be watched, put in jail, even killed.""

I was very incensed to observe yesterday here in the Four Corners area by the Museum--at the peace-at-any-price rally down the road from the patriotic one . . .
A Dillbo clone holding a sign of the Flag with "AXIS OF EVIL" across it in big letters.
Somehow I restrained myself from getting out and creating a scene.

Milwaukee School Board member Jennifer Morales told the gathering she had grown tired of being branded un-American because of her views..Well, I've grown tired of hearing the anti-American views of her and her buddies, so I guess that makes us all even, doesn't it?
If she's tired of the label she chose to wear, she should consider shutting up-- because I won't...
To: Howlin
She's cute as a button! If I didn't already have a patriotic Mom, this is the woman I'd want to adopt me. :D

Milwaukee School Board member Jennifer Morales told the gathering she had grown tired of being branded un-American because of her views..She is right. It's not unAmerican it's anti-American and a small number of our citizens have been anti-American since the founding of our country. In fact about half the population didn't want to fight the British in the first place.
