My own view is that Toomey doesn't have one chance in 50 of beating Specter in a primary.

The key thing for Republicans is that if Toomey were to win, he would not have one chance in a million of election in November. Republicans would simply lose the seat to the Democrats, which would be a disaster for the president, who also will be running in 2004.

The Dems will root for Toomey just like the Repubs are rooting for Sharpton. Both will lose and in both cases, a Dem will win. A RINO is always better than a Democrat. If it were not for RINOs, the DEMs would control both houses of Congress.

Specter voted against Bork's confirmation.

His one major accomplishment since - he lost half of his brain.

From the article: So, why is Toomey running? I believe it is a combination, on Toomey's part, of ideological zealotry and unbridled ambition. The key elements of Toomey's campaign are already emerging. They combine extreme fiscal conservancy with a religious-right view on women's issues. Specter, as a senator, has a record of being a more moderate candidate than Toomey. Still, Specter is well within the norm of Republican thought and belief.

For someone who brags about 50 years of republican activism he sure hasn't learned much has he?

I agree a Toomey candidacy could be a disaster for PA R's. But on the other hand, I can't stand Specter. He is NOT republican mainstream.

Every so often, a political party puts its ideological extremes to the fore, to its detriment.

He should retire the other half.

What happens when a RINO lets a Democrat run to his right.

What happens when a true conservative runs against that same Democrat.
What happens when the Democrats decide the reason they lost was because their previous candidate wasn't liberal enough.

Spector voted against Clinton impeachment

Spector voted for Clinton's gun ban

I want him gone, even if it costs the Senate seat. Better an open enemy than a traitor in your own camp

Health Problems

"they found a growth in my head somewhere between [the size of] a golf ball and a tennis ball. I was very fortunate that it was benign." The benign tumor was removed, but it is legitimate, we feel, to wonder if brain damage was involved. Specter is, however, by all accounts a very sharp guy and probably had some to spare.

I predict that sheer EXHAUSTION will hamper specter in the primary.

Spector voted against Clinton impeachment.

The powers-that-be have been letting him get away with his arrogance.

But on the other hand, I can't stand Specter.

Did you see him in the Senate the other day yelling at Robert Muller?
