This is consistent with what happened in the Afghan war. Most were Saudis and lots were killed. What is most important is the numbers, just 400, a much lower number than the Afghan war. That indicates a lack of faith with the masses of their triumph in the battle. More a resignation that they are done for. Obviously they have little to live for in a Muslim society. No anticipation of "The Return of the King" - which you are allowed to take both ways.
