Kuwait, 6 March: The members of the Czech chemical warfare unit deployed in Kuwait are moving towards key objects in the country today and on Friday [7 March], Maj Vladimir Lukovsky from the Defence Ministry press department told CTK today.
The AP news agency had said earlier that the Czech unit would be moving towards strategic places over the weekend. The information has been confirmed by unit spokesman Ludek Lavicka.
Since activities of terrorist groups have been registered in Kuwait, local state objects are in danger.
According to Lukovsky, the joint Czech-Slovak unit will start monitoring the radiation, chemical and biological situation at significant state facilities on Saturday. The first soldiers have already been transported to their new positions, he said.
Lukovsky also said that both Czech and Slovak members of the joint battalion were taking part in the operation. Only a small group of soldiers will remain at the Doha camp to provide logistic support to their colleagues.
The Defence Ministry said that all battalion members were alright at present.
The joint Czech-Slovak battalion has 427 members and is to be deployed in combat only under a mandate of the UN Security Council, or in rescue and humanitarian operations if weapons of mass destruction are used.
