Ethan Allen loved the people and loved the land.
He wasn't some cyncial mass murderer religious cultist.
And Ethan Allen didn't capture the Fort by being rude. He captured the fort by being drunk, bringing a bunch of drunk people with them, firing a lot of guns into the air, and == don't underestimate it == being the beneficiary of extraordinarily good timing: the British had just been told a massive assault on them might soon take place and relied on this mistaken intelligence to think This Was It.

Funny, I must have sat out the history class where we covered the 1776 massacre when Ben Franklin blew up 3,000 citizens of London.
Good point. I missed that class about Ethan Allen being a mass murderer too.

The home state of Trafficante. I think they should ALL be beamed up.

Ethan Allen religious? Coulda fooled this life long Vermonter. Ole Ethan met his maker after drunkenly falling off his horse. Not exactly sainthood material.

ah, man, thanks for the ping. I'm on it Good!
The two main characteristics of Osama bin Laden are:
1. he's a terrorist, who targets innocent civilians for death and destruction.
2. he's a religious fanatic, relying on the later to justify the former.
We've already seen that there is no comparable mass slaughter of civilians by the Green Mountain Boys, so the comparison fails on count one. Let us turn to count two...
So, was Ethan Allen a religious fanatic?
AFAIK, Ethan Allen was the exact OPPOSITE of a religious fanatic. In fact, he was, IIRC, nearly the victim of religious fanatics himself.
So, it would seem the Congressb*tch from Ohio is wrong on BOTH accounts.

This type of idoicy in the Congress, I could get elected to Congress against this idiot, and I would do it in a Liberal District.

I'm sure Kaptur is right... Even after all these years, Saddam's intention ultimately must be that he wants to have democracy and elected representation. It's all been a misunderstanding up until now.

That's heavy-duty sarcasm, Cinnamon_Girl! If only it were true. Our military boys, today's Green Mountain Boys, would not be in harm's way today.

Yes, there's something *very* troubling about associating his strong patriotic fever with Osama's cult-ism. That's just weird.

I just exchanged emails with the author of the article. Here's what he said:
"The difference between liberal women and conservative women is so very striking. This piece is an example. You won't find conservative women making historical comparisons that are obviously just plain stupid. Works the same with men. Blathering nonsense from the left and stuff that checks out from the right."

As a proud American whose ancestors on both sides fought in the American Revolution, I cannot BEGIN to tell you how disgusted and revolted I am by Kaptur's idiotic, asinine comments.
I can only pray that her congressional constituents replace her with a more sane representative in the next election.

AS I suspected......
Osama and his towel-headed entourage are a bunch of intolerant religious fanatics, while Ethan Allen was nearly the VICTIM of a bunch of intolerant religious fanatics:
In 1764 ingrafting, or transporting tissue infected with the smallpox virus to a body not infected, was a new way of curing the disease. Ingrafting was considered a heresy by New England clergy and punishable by law, if not conducted with the consent of the town selectman. Allen insisted that Dr. Young inject him with the virus on the Salisbury meeting house steps to prove whether or not ingrafting worked. They did this on a Sunday. Allen did not suffer from the virus, but the news of what they did spread quickly in Salisbury. after being hauled into court, Ethan was threatened to be prosecuted by Rev. Johnathan Lee and one Stoddard. Allen made his own defense stating "By Jesus Christ, I wish I may be Bound Down in Hell with old Belzabub a Thousand years in the Lowest Pitt in Hell and that Every Little Insippid Devil should come along by and ask the Reason of Allens Lying there, (if) it Should be said (that) he made a promise...that he would have satisfaction of Lee and Stoddard and Did Not fulfill it." Since spoken by a deist in a court of law surrounded by Calvinists, this outrageous passage probably left the court in awe.(29)[emphasis added]
Not only is the Congressbag from Ohio wrong; she's 180 degrees wrong!

(I forgot to add to my previous post that I will telephone Kaptur's office tomorrow to give her my opinion on her crazy comments.)

Ways & Means Committee, well, well, well! Is she the ranking member on any subcommittees?
Maybe we can pressure the RAT caucus to discipline her.

I wonder if folks in Vermont are aware of this news. I wonder how they would react if they were aware of it.
To: aristeides
Descendants of the Green Mountain Boys are not confined to Vermont, and we are not amused.
