Jeff Shaara's novel "The Last Full Measure" has recently been optioned by Ted Turner Pictures. The script was recently commissioned. First draft screenplay expected January '03 for possible filming summer '03 in Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia. This film will follow all the characters from 'Gods and Generals' and 'Gettysburg' from July 1863 to April 1865, with the additional characters of U.S. Grant, Sheridan and Sherman.

My reenactor friends and I are really looking forward to appearing in Last Full Measure--and in this film, perhaps the clothing and grooming of the civilian (re-en)actors will be more authentic than they were in Gods and Generals. In any case it will be rewarding to participate in an important project, a document that helps to tell America how we became America. Maxwell's series gives a voice to the dead. It's far from perfect, but it's deeply valuable nevertheless.

Thanks for posting this info. I've had the book sitting on my shelf and plan to read it soon. I finally got to read "Gods & Generals" prior to the movie being released. Haven't seen the movie yet and will more than likely have to wait until it comes out on DVD.
