From Cubicle Gulag, no computer at home, no Fox News, and only able to catch SNATCHES of this thread---may as well be in solitary confinement.

Can anyone give me (and fellow prisoners, if any) a 4 or 5 sentence summary of where we stand right now?
And your opinion as to whether the Republican leadership will continue to press forward and NOT let the Dems ultimately triumph in this? (that is, allow them to highjack the judicial nomination process)

I am about to "stroke out" over this...

Where we stand right now:

The Republicans filed a formal notice that they would ask for a cloture vote today. Cloture ends debate after an additional 30 hours and will bring Estrada's name to the floor for an up or dowon vote. The Republicans have enough votes to pass Estrada, if they can get his name to the floor. However, to shut off the debate you must have 60 votes. Some democrats have said that while they will not vote for Estrada, they WILL vote to end debate. At last public count, we had 57 or 58 to end debate. This vote will tell us if we were able to shave enough off on the first go around. Frist has said he will use repeated cloture votes if necessary.

I hope this helps!

The GOP is putting the Dems on the record re: whether they will allow a vote on estrada or continue to filibuster. The vote is 10:30. They are having a Quorum Call now.

If the cloture vote gets 60, Estrada will be confirmed today. If less then who knows.

Daschle up now
Sad to have to have vote at all
Democrats want same standard set of judicial nominees
