Beyond that, there are still remnants of teachers' conduct codes. They are not allowed to be anti-American and they're not supposed to bring their private politics into the classroomI am a Feeeper teacher. I strongly believe that my job, any teacher's job, is to teach, not to indoctrinate. My views are mine I do not impose them on my students. (I do answer their questions about my opinion if they ask about that specifically).
The biggest compliment that I get is "You're not like the other teachers".

Have you considered a job at Issaquah High School?

Ditto. I teach college and I tell my students on the first day that I am not out to make them Republicans, Democrats, Bhuddists, or Martians for that matter. I am here to teach and they are old enough to make up their own minds and investigate questions they have.

Commendable. Real teachers don't indoctrinate or merely induce recitation of facts. They teach people to think. And that's what your students are noticing in the difference bewteen you and other teachers.
You're a success professionally. Even in the public school system that is arranged so as to avoid rewarding your effectiveness. My only longterm union job sucked because it was socialist and the slackers got the same rewards as the people who did the real work and kept the place afloat financially. I was liberal back then but I think I eventually turned conservative largely because of having seen it in action myself.
