It is my understanding that the president-elect of the United States has indicated his clear support for extending the assault weapons ban, and I will be pleased to move forward with that position," Ashcroft said in response to a question from Feinstein.

Say what? This better not be true.

I didn't even know Bush supported the AWB, until now.

Sorry, but it IS true. I personally heard him promise to extend the clearly unconstitutional AW ban in a speech he made during the primary campaign. It was made somewhere in the midwest, possibly Iowa, but can't remember for sure. My heart sank into my boots when I heard him say it because I knew he had already been annointed for the job. Until then I had been mislead to believe he was a 2nd amendment supporter. Wrong.

The only hope for sunsetting the ban is to put pressure on our congresscritters to let it die. Bush will sign the extension bill if it gets to his desk, no doubt about it.
Personally, I'm not at all hopeful.
