When your hideout is stormed at 2:00AM while you are sleeping, it is difficult to keep from being taken alive. I am sure he has a couple of bodyguards with him, but they too can be quickly neutralized before having a chance to react.Himmler actually surrendered to British authorities and remained in custody for several hours. When he realized there would be no negotiations--as he expected--he broke a cyanide capsule that it is believed had been in his mouth the whole time. Goering had a cyanide capsule smuggled to him and used it to cheat the hangman.
Also, UBL is believed to be more levelheaded and focused than KSM, and would have the discipline to at least have a sentry posted.

Capturing bin Laden isn't as important as capturing Mohammad, because Mohammad is the one with the operational details. I'll settle for having Osama's head on a stick.

I believe you are mistaken about Himmler. He masqueraded as an over-age private (not uncommon in the last desperate months of the Reich) in the hopes of escape. But a sharp-eyed Amrican interrogator noticed that his hands seemed far too manicured for someone supposedly engaged in hard labor.
He was then identified, and, while awaiting a medical exam, took the cyonide tablet.
This seems to put a different spin on the story. Of course, it is possible he tried to "negotiate" after being recognized, but I never read about that.
Cordially,
Al
