Are white males getting shortchanged? No. Freedom is getting shortchanged.

We should resist the temptation to partition ourselves off into groups like this, even when it's in the name of a good cause such as fighting affirmative action. Positioning the argument this way simply buys into the left's premise that groups are important in the first place. They're not. Individuals are important. And THAT'S why affirmative action is wrong.

If you cede this ground -- if you invoke "white males" as a group that is "losing rights" -- you've already handed the argument to the libs.

AMEN! We ought to remember who insists that racial categories remain on all manner of government forms, applications, job applications,etc.It's liberals who engineer this nightmare.

The problem is that other people classify individuals into groups, and then make real world decisions based on those classifications. It is not just liberals. There are people here that believe that anyone who thinks that the WOD is a waste of money and that drug laws should exist on the state level, not federal (e.g. 10th amendment) are: (take your pick) (1) unwashed (2) long-haired (3) hippies (4) cop-haters (5) vermin (6,7,8...) Etcetera.

Of course, "we should resist the temptation to partition ourselves off into groups like this..." because as you say, "positioning the argument this way simply buys into the left's premise that groups are important..." On the otherhand, denying the truth of an observation, just because it positions our arguments at a perceived disadvantage, also is not a sound practice. Honesty must come first. Then create arguments to deal with it.

Keeping our eyes focused on the idea of individual rights as a goal, must not supercede the reality of individuals who use group power to effectively advance their own aims at the expense of other, less fortunate individuals.

Most white males with IQs of 115 have to really struggle in todays America. Their struggle is often not recognized by those with IQs of 125.
