Two Palestinians were killed in the West Bank on Tuesday as IDF forces continued operations in the old city in Nablus and Jenin to arrest fugitives and search for explosives and weapons caches.
In Jenin, two undercover Border Policemen were wounded when an Islamic Jihad fugitive drew his gun and shot them as they attempted to arrest him in a local internet cafe. The two returned fire lightly wounding Islamic Jihad fugitive Iyad Jawadat who was arrested along with six other suspects.
The two border policemen suffering from gunshot wounds to the stomach and chest were taken to the Haemek Hospital in Afula.
The condition of the unit's operations officer was described as moderate to serious and the second border policeman suffered light to moderate injuries.
Following the incident, clashes broke out between Palestinians and security forces, Hissam Mahmud Amr, 16 was shot and killed when he attempted to throw a firebomb at them and six other Palestinians were wounded.
In Tulkarm, paratroopers shot and killed an armed Palestinian in the city, there were no details regarding his identity. Senior IDF officials said terror threats in Nablus have dropped to zero since the army embarked on phase two of Operation Root Canal Treatment in the city aimed at routing out fugitives and destroying the terrorist infrastructure.
Security forces have uncovered twenty tunnels in the city used to smuggle explosives in addition to bomb factories and weapons stashed in hideouts in homes. The IDF official noted that the current operation underway in the city would continue for some time adding, "there are still many apartments left to search."
Security forces arrested 34 Palestinian fugitives and suspects involved in terrorist activities in a number of raids on West Bank towns and villages. West of Hebron in the village Tufah, security forces arrested 26 fugitives, two others were arrested in Ramallah and five fugitives were arrested in the Nablus area.
In the Al Fawar refugee camp near Hebron where soldiers operated for a second night on Monday, one Palestinian fugitive was arrested and sappers blew up the room where soldiers found a bomb factory on Saturday.
Reservists on operational duty in Sanur north of Homesh uncovered four home made pipe bombs and ammunition which they later blew up. In recent days security forces have succeeded in thwarting three bomb attacks against soldiers deployed in north Samaria.
